Botox works by reducing the activity of muscles. Frown lines or wrinkles caused by overactive muscles can be injected with Botox to relax those overactive muscles to effect a visible smoothing of lines and wrinkles.
Botox is a physician administered treatment which involves consultation and the treatment is quick involving tiny injections to the area required. Botox therapy is said to last up to 4 months after which retreatment is required. Visible results are said to be seen after four to five days. Botox injections normally require no downtime, don't require anesthesia and usually only a mild discomfort is experienced with the injection.
Botox has been used for many years in beauty treatments including smoothing out of frown lines, crow's feet, lines on the neck and for reshaping of lips and brows. Botox is also used for treatments other than it's cosmetic use.
Botox injections can have side effects so it is vital to make your practitioner aware of any existing conditions and medications. Choosing the right practioner is also an important step with resources provided below.
