Detoxing or Detoxifying is a process of cleansing out harmful or unwanted impurities from the body whether formed from a poor diet, substance abuse or enviromental toxins.
A detox diet or program may have many benefits with some claiming relief from fatigue, migraine, skin problems, general aches and pains, bloating, irritible bowel and digestive disorders. Many claim improved wellbeing, increased energy and mental clarity.
There are many detox programs and diets and most are a short term process of generally one to two weeks. The detox programs on the market are wide and varied ranging from fasting and juice fasting programs to colonic cleansing or colon hydrotherapy. Other detox methods include an organic diet, use of herbs and cutting all substances like alcohol, cigarettes, coffee etc..
Some foods are also claimed to be beneficial in the detox process including Green Leafy vegetables (Chlorophyll), Garlic, Watercress, Green Tea, Broccoli, Sesame seeds and fruit. Lemon detox diets are common due to their high content of vitamin C, considered by some as the detox vitamin.
